I would like to introduce you to my mother, Marion Eileen Simmons Adams. She was born June 7, 1937 in Putman, CT. As you can see from her photo she is wearing an Apron. My Mom is who taught me to cook. She had five children so the poor woman had to like cooking to keep us all fed! Growing up in CT and later in AZ we rarely celebrated an occasion without someone extra at our dinner or picnic table.
My Mom met my Dad, Chet while she was picking strawberries. They married in 1955 and very shortly after they moved to VA where my Dad was stationed in the Army until he was sent to Korea. The first of five children came soon after.
Growing up my Mom's favorite books to read - cookbooks! Oh how she loved to try out new recipes! I found that often times I was the one in the kitchen with her, always helping to clean up. I can't even imagine the mountain of dishes my Mom washed and dried! To this day my parents home still doesn't have a dishwasher.
My Mom taught me about traditions, about the importance of family and how proud she was of her children. Aside from cooking my Mom also loved to travel. A love I know she passed on to me. My Mom fought Parkinson's Disease for over 15 years; she left us on August 20, 2004.
So when I cook I sometimes feel my Mom standing right beside me; helping me peel apples for a pie or mince garlic for sauce. When I'm looking for a recipe in my many cookbooks I feel her guiding me to find just the right recipe I am searching for. I look forward to sharing her recipes with you. She wasn't a fancy cook, but she sure was a good cook!
Love you and miss you Mom!
